Because of the fact that in the late Middle-Ages the most
important kinds of wood for heating, house-building, the manufacturing of
furniture and tools were beechwood and oakwood, the deforestation of our
oakwoods was enormously. Later on, during the years 1900-1950, poplars and
Canadian trees were planted more and more. Where was the popularity of the
oak?
Where comes the name from? ‘Oakvalley’ finds its beginning in the Middle
Ages…
The present owner of the country-seat, Mr.Renaat Van
Landschoot, has discovered by way of genealogical research of the family, made
by his brother, that a certain Joannes Van Landschoot lived here between the years
1500 and 1560. Generations after generations this passion passed on.
1990 became a very new start for the oak in the region! Mr.Renaat Van
Landschoot was allready settled here and bought 3 hectares of land over a
period of 4-5 years. His strong desire was to bring the famous oakpassion
alive again. One hectare for the laying-out of gardens. Two hectares for
woods. The oaknumber amounts not less than 3000. The kinds are summeroak,
winteroak, marh-oak, American oak. Around 500 native trees were planted also
such as Acacia, maple tree, sweet chestnut, horse-chestnut, lime-tree, silver
lime-tree, plane-tree, green beech….The wood is surrounded by brushwood:
hibiscus, mountain-ash berry, hazel. Nowadays, the forest is planted 10 years
ago and becomes every year more full and beautiful. The passion of Mr. Van
Landschoot is almost fulfilled. ..Oaks, wood, green nature in its purity… The
marsh and waterpart in the middle of the wood is essential for the needs of
the fauna. Life goes on..You’ll see…Near the house, you’ll find a small
rectangular fir-wood. Very attractive is also the triangular fir-wood on the
other side of the country-seat; The garden has had a lot of inspirations out
of different countries: the taut English symmetrical buxusgarden with roses
and sun’s altitude is very special. Next to it is the Italian pergola of 40
metres length with Wisteria Senensis the main-attraction. The lime-tree-avenue
with roses, hydrengia and fern is a unique combination. This idea was found in
India(Calcutta) as well as the square flower-impression, with dark female
sculpture, mass of water with fish and Indian temple. The Kali-temple in
Calcutta with its idolization and begging poor people, was the source for this
latest project. The owner of Oakvalley is not ready yet!! The gardens become
more characteristic month by month. In front of the house, a huge
lavenderpiece with next to it a clear yellow flowerpalette steels the show.
Anyway, OAKVALLEY is growing and invites you friendly to breeth one sunny day
its atmosphere and artcolours… Welcome, you won’t regret it!
